Roasted chickpeas are popular snacks in Turkey. They are an integral part of the consumption ritual of Raki, the traditional aniseed-flavoured Turkish alcoholic drink. According to the legend, a chickpea that Atatürk left in the pocket of the uniform he wore during the battle of Gallipoli was exhibited in one of the halls of the Military Museum in Istanbul in the 90s.
